Spinning Circles

Artist Statement
Meant to be both mesmerizing and disorienting, Spinning Circles is an exploration of the beauty in intentional negative design decisions. Powered by an Arduino and motor, the circles contain red and green abstracted letters of all sizes and fonts. Because red and green are complimentary colors, a white line appears between the two, because of retinal vibration. Because of this retinal vibration, traditional design standards suggest not setting green text on a red background, for example. As the circles rotate, a rhythm appears, as some move in a fixed path, while others flip and sway because of the lopsided rods.
